What is the Body Positive Stomp?
If you are a plus size person of ANY gender,
OR would like to have a go at a trail event without fear of judgement,
OR scared of coming last,
OR feel intimidated by all the super fit, speedy runners,
OR are afraid that the finish line will be all packed up before you finish...
Then this event is for YOU!
A non judgemental, welcoming, walk, skip, shuffle, jog, prance, strut or stomp, its up to you! A 4.5km, non-timed, non-competitive event supported by volunteer trail angels, creating a party at the back so that no one comes last.
The Body Positive Stomp has been created by Richelle and the team from Escaping Your Comfort Zone body positive adventures, as part of the Warburton Trail Festival, to encourage everyone to get out on the trails, regardless of your fitness level, body size or level of experience.
The outdoors don't care about your pace, your size or your fitness, and neither do we!

So often its daunting to show up to an organised fun run or walk event, feeling like you might be slower, or bigger than everyone else, and not feel like you belong. This is often exacerbated by the finish line being packed up even before you finish. Not at this event! Our aim for this event is to create a comfortable, supported space that celebrates simple movement, new friends and an amazingly beautiful nature trail, rather than speed and athleticism.
And medals, did we mention medals?!!
What to expect on the day
- Trail angels creating the party at the back, which means that no one comes last
- Walk, skip, shuffle, jog, prance, strut or stomp, its up to you!
- No cut off times
- 4.5km of beautiful, mostly flat, with some uneven surfaces, treelined, riverside dirt trails in the stunning Warburton
- No timing, this is a true fun event with no focus on times
- Post event celebration picnic in the park - bring a plate to share!
- And yes, there's Medals! Everyone gets a medal!
This is a weekend chocka block full of trail fun, and not just runs! Here's a few of the extra non-running fun stuff:
- A short hike hosted by Salomon, with the chance to try out their trail shoes.
- There's seminars each day
- A film night on Saturday night,
- Plogging (walking/running and picking up rubbish),
- Live music and a party on Sunday night
- And the amazingly fun and hilarious Lilo Derby, where you walk or run 1.5km with a big inflatable lilo/unicorn/flamingo/dinosaur, and then your float back down the river to where you started! Believe me, I did it last year, lots of fun!
- And there's lots of volunteer opportunities for the whole weekend too!
So come down and make a weekend of it! Check out the full event schedule.
Event structure - this is an event as part of a bigger trail festival. This means that there are other running events happening before, after and at the same time, so there will be fast runners joining us on a very short sections of the course. In a perfect world we would want to hold a totally standalone event, however event logistics and setup mean a standalone event is very expensive and a lot of work to setup. It has been something we have wanted to organise for years, but logistics held us back, so when Chris from the Warburton Trail Fest invited us to be part of their event, we couldn't say no. Especially when we could keep the entry price down to an unheard of cost of $22! Rest assured that you will feel supported throughout the whole event by our positive volunteer crew, and at the same time, you will get to see the encouragement and acceptance from the trail running community.
What to wear/bring - Wear whatever you are comfortable in, provided you have sturdy running/walking shoes with laces (not slip on shoes). Trackies, shorts, tshirts, yoga tights, whatever is comfortable. Don't have anything suitable? Kmart and Big W are a great, low cost option for activewear, and are generally quite size inclusive. Make sure you bring a water bottle, if its hot, make sure its a big one. Hat and sunscreen. No need to bring any valuables, but maybe pop a $20 in a pocket for a drink or a food truck afterwards.
Merchandise - we know how frustrating it is to take part in an event, only to find that t-shirts don't come in your size. So we will be creating Body Positive Stomp trucker caps for pre-purchase prior to the event (with a limited number on the day of the event). We are just finalising the design, but will let you know as soon as the pre-sale is available! (Please note that you may see white Warburton Trail Fest t-shirts available online, at this point they only go up to a Mens 2XL - hello t-shirt manufacturers, bigger bodies wear t-shirts too, a constant frustration for us!! Apologies if these sizes don't work for you, this is the top of our agenda for next year!)
Accommodation - this is a long weekend, so if you are planning on staying in Warburton, get your camping or other accom sorted early! If you need some buddies to organise accom or camping with, put a post up in our Facebook event.
Accessibility - due to the trail nature of this event, there are some uneven steps, roots and rocks to navigate, so please keep this in mind if you are uncertain on your feet. For extra stability you might find hiking poles helpful, let us know if you need some, and we can bring along spare pairs of poles. Unfortunately it won't work for wheelchairs for the same reason. The event hub and finish line area is wheelchair accessible. There are port-a-loos at the start/finish area.
Kids, dogs and prams - Kids are welcome, provided they are in the presence of a parent or guardian on the trail. Aas this is a trail that is quite narrow in places, unfortunately prams and dogs may get in the way of other participants, so are not allowed.
Post event picnic - lets celebrate the event, and life in general together with a picnic! So please bring a plate to share after the event!
Volunteers - yes we need volunteers! Positive people who are happy to create a party at the back, or to help give directions, or give out bibs before the event, or medals at the end, we need you! Please contact us at [email protected] if you are available to volunteer for this event!
Further information - You will find plenty more answers to your questions on the Warburton Trail Fest website. There will also be a complete, detailed participant guide sent to all entrants around a week before the event. Otherwise please contact us at [email protected] with any other questions.
