Meet Elena. Elena started with the group recently, after taking up walking just 1 month previous. She was so scared on that first hike, that she would be too slow, and that she wouldn’t be able to keep up and she was terrified of the hills. Now just a couple of weeks in, she is powering along at the front of the group, and shocking even herself, has been heard saying she likes hills!! I won’t let you forget that one Elena!
Tell us a bit about yourself Elena
I’m 42yo, 2 teenage kids, ( both with additional needs) 2 little rescue dogs, 2 cats and a husband
Tell us what you do for fun?
My hobbies are cooking, family and friends, and now walking.
What triggered you to come along to your first Escaping Your Comfort Zone hike?
My trigger was, I wanted to look after me for once. I’ve cared for everyone else, always, but never really cared for me. I have lost some weigh this year. Completely Changed my diet, and wanted to get more active. I had started walking the dogs, but wanted more.
Tell us a bit about how you felt during and after your first hike.
I was nervous the first time. I didn’t think I would make the distance .I wasn’t sure if I’d hold everyone back by bring too slow. I didn’t know if the ladies would like me. Those feelings disappeared pretty quickly.
I’d love to know how the hikes changed how you feel about yourself.
I enjoy going out for the hikes, seeing different sites, having laughs. I know I can walk the courses that we walk. I can feel myself getting fitter, I feel mentally stronger.
What would you say to someone who thinks they are too unfit, slow, nervous or anxious to come along?
I would say to anyone doubting whether they are capable enough for these hikes is, ” you are fit enough, you are strong enough, you can do it”. Look at me, I can, and I continue to improve.
Any other thoughts?
I love the new friendships that I’ve made. I love the sights that I’ve seen. I love the person that I’m becoming, fitter, stronger. And believe it or not I’m loving life, and I’m looking forward to pushing myself into new challenges and adventures. Thank you Richelle. Forever grateful.
Thankyou Elena!! You are such a lovely, positive, caring influence in the group.
